Gayday`s day
One of the brightest Russian designers, Konstantin Gayday, will show off his creations on the final day of Volvo Fashion Week on April 4.
The designer started his career back in 2004 as a milliner. He has won strong following among Russian fashion lovers for creating unusual, sometimes quirky hats combining feathers and spikes. Now he will return to the catwalk after two years of looking for alternative forms of presentation.
Gayday will present his latest Autumn-Winter 2011-2012 clothing collection as well as an haute couture selection of hats.
The collection is comprised largely of pants, jackets, vests, knitted garments - the basic items which could add to both men`s and women`s wardrobes. And this is by no means accidental - Konstantin Gayday declares universality of garments the main idea of the collection. "It`s the men`s wear that always inspires me for the creation of the women`s collection. So, the main aim I pursue is to create a universal cutting, when one and the same garment sits perfectly on both men and women" - the designer says.
Gayday`s signature design is mingling an edgy style with Russian folklore motifs. In previous seasons the designer, who was named the main representative of Russian avant-garde fashion and "the national star" by Western media, has used traditional Russian headscarves with floral ornaments mixing them with the designer`s edgy prints.
What`s next? Gayday says he has always been inspired by the somber and fairytale characters of Viktor Vasnetsov, a Russian painter who is famous for illustrating fairytales and "bylinas" - Russian epic stories. They are certainly an inexhaustible source of inspiration for a designer balancing on the verge between the decadent and the traditional.
